Petition drive.

Sherman-01_profileHello, this is the General. Still no response from the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the Household Headquarters to my letter regarding relocating my troop basket to increase accessibility. I tried moving the basket this weekend – several times – and every morning my troops were back in their original location.

Time is of the essence – how many soldiers must I abandon before action is taken?!

In order to pressure the Joint Chiefs into responding, I decided to circulate a petition. Perhaps a show of solidarity will bolster my case? Besides, signing a petition requires very little investment from the others and should be a quick and simple task.

I started with Carol [since this is, technically, her blog] and asked her to pass the petition around. Please excuse the stationery – it’s all I could find in Little Mom’s desk drawer.

I fear submitting this petition to the Joint Chiefs will only complicate my original request.

  1. I have discussed this with our pack and pride, and they told me to add their names to the petition immediately—-Jersey, Lil Devil, Purrful, Poppy McSassyPants, Smokey (cats) and Chance, Boxita and Jinx (puppers). The furry kids are spreading the word at the groomer’s and vet offices…..

  2. General, you’re off to a good start there. Even though my Snowflake would mimic Violet’s words on sleeping at this point, I think she would be in for a YES if she can recall the days when her own basket amused her. Also, my grand-cat, and grand-dog would give a resounding YES as well. Grand-kitty demands that her ribbons be strategically draped over her scratching post for immediate access, and grand-dog consistently takes apart her own well-used troop basket and sends her many well-chewed troops to outlying positions where they wait for orders. So I would feel fine about having you add Snowflake, Coco, and Kiki to your list as well. Best, Deb

    • I’m not sure what was so funny, but I appreciate Sadie, Sally, and Sophie’s support!! Please give them my thanks! With this kind of backing, the Joint Chiefs are going to have to act quickly!

    • This is too much!! Thank you to Firepie, Monkey, Suzy, Tara, and Petey dog, who it sounds like can sympathize with my situation. I can’t wait to see the look on the Joint Chiefs’ faces when I show them the overwhelming support my troops and I have!

  3. General,I respect your reason for beginning with Carol, however, I suspect that you would have had fewer ‘buts’ on your list if you had begun with either Eggnog or Walter … cats are quite notorious about adding ‘but’ after yes… by the time your petition got to your pack-mates,, they probably thought it was necessary to put a ‘but’ after yes…
I shall confer with Purrsideon, Mr. M, Olivia and Saphera regarding the addition of their names – at the moment, they are all sound asleep.

    • You are very right, Jeanne!!! How did I not take that into consideration?! I will be sure not to make that mistake again.

Please let me know if Purrsideon, Mr. M., and Olivia would like their names included. (And please don’t tell them about all of the “buts.” Otherwise I fear they will have their demands as well!)

  4. It would appear that your original request would truly be “muddied” by the submission of this petition with further list of demands. Seems that this whole thing is getting out of control. Perhaps if you very subtly move your troops – maybe one at a time – to a HIDDEN new location, then when you’ve mustered a majority of the troops to the HIDDEN location, you can reposition them to the desired location ALL AT ONCE – like a massive “hit” – purrrrhaps that will make an impression on your Moms? Just a thought.

    Hugs, Sammy

    • So you suggest I plan a staged, stealth attack, Sammy? I do believe that would make an impression! Obviously shoving my basket to the middle of the room while the Joint Chiefs watched television and knitted did nothing to persuade them into action. If my petition does not motivate them to respond, I will give your ingenious tactic a try! Thank you!

  5. Sherman–I would have to agree with Sammy. Dare I say, you do live with a rather spoiled bunch. It would seem that they are all out for themselves. Please add Teemu, Kitty, and Parker’s name to your petition. Good luck with this!

    • Yes, they are spoiled!! While they demand treats and fancy water bowls, my troops languish, forgotten by the powers-that-be. I deeply appreciate Teemu, Kitty, and Parker’s support for my brigade. Thank you!

      • Wow, look at all the money being raised!! This sounds a little like bribery of officials, however. Isn’t that unethical? Although I know that I respond well to bribery – particularly when there’s peanut butter involved. I will definitely take this under consideration. Perhaps if the campaign ran under Eggnog’s name…

      • I’m sure that there’s a way around the issue of labeling this as bribery. I am not one to like labels much anyway General, so perhaps it could be encouraged as a troop morale fund when presented along with the signatures to the JC.

      • Thank you for letting us know about Nosey the Elephant’s plight. Hopefully enough people will sign her petition to convince the USDA to act.

And good luck with your ongoing efforts to have your troops relocated. Deb’s idea to set up a Go Fund Me campaign is a good one. Maybe you can raise enough money to get barracks constructed to house them 🙂

      • I hadn’t considered using the funds to construct additional barracks! Jacques mentioned a secondary basket, but with all the trouble I’m having getting the first one relocated, that seemed a far off dream.

Perhaps it is possible, though? I’ve received so many good ideas – I need to sit down and strategize. Perhaps my brother Walter will help! Thank you!

  6. Hmm… Yes, presenting your petition in its current state might wrap everything in a giant ball of bureaucratic furry tape. Jacques thinks it is a great injustice that you still don’t have two troop baskets. He said to put his name on your petition as well!

    • Thank you, Albert, for signing my petition! I’ve had so much support, I’m considering leaving off my siblings and only including my friends from Carol’s blog [in addition to, perhaps, launching a Change.org petition]. This seems like the best way to maintain some semblance of control.

  7. I’m so sorry for your troubles Sherman and I would like to support your petition but, BUT, as THE Chief of Household Operations here in our home I just have to hear more of the opposing viewpoint because sometimes moms, well, moms do know best. And while you think they are just ignoring your relocated basket while they knit away the evenings, I think, no, I’m positive! that they have so many, many reasons for denying your request beyond what they are telling you. Besides, you are coming on a bit strong, don’t you think? Oh, and please tell Steve that I just LOVE all the hearts he uses in his writing. I’m sure the Gang will put him in charge of all correspondence very soon.

    • Interesting. I hadn’t considered that the Joint Chiefs may have their own reasons for not answering my request. After all, what could possibly be wrong with relocating my troops to the middle of the living room floor? But I will give your viewpoint further thought. [Though I’m doubtful that I’ll be swayed.]

I will pass your compliment about Steve’s pawmanship onto him, including your suggestion of a more prominent position in the Ballers. I know he’s interested in working his way up the ranks. I may not like gangs, but I’m glad to see Steve finally demonstrate a little ambition.

  8. Sherman, my boys, Tipper and Biscotti would like me to have you add them to your petition if it would help. My husband is a decorated Army veteran and is always talking about “supporting our troops” which since your blog, makes more sense to them. Good luck sir, we salute you!
