I won’t let this go to my head….

versatie-blogger-bigThank you so much to Spence’s Girl for nominating me for The Versatile Blogger Award! I am so very honored. I have an Awards page where I usually post my awards, but with a little spare time on my paws, I thought I’d give this award its own post.

My brother, Sherman, tried to claim half of my Versatile Blogger Award for himself, but I told him that when he gets his own blog, he can have his own awards! Plus, I remember what Baby Girl told me about not letting boys boss you around!! I’m my own boss!

In order to accept this award, I must give seven facts about myself. Seven?! I asked my neighbor Baby Girl for input – she’s so smart – and she told me that if I meditated daily like her guru Gwyneth Paltrow, I would be in touch with my inner self which would make this task much, much simpler. She said Ms. Paltrow could rattle off 700 facts about herself with great ease.

So, slipping away to my favorite not-so-secret hiding spot, I sought an inner quiet to contemplate. Which was quickly interrupted by Steve asking where his studded collar and leather hat had gone to – he needed them for a secret meeting he had scheduled.

Luckily I had my seven facts figured out.

  1. I’m a cat. Apparently lots of humans that first visit my blog miss this point, so I thought it was important to start with.
  2. I like routine. [See #1] Every night when it’s time for The General and Walter to go in their crates upstairs, I race ahead and sit on the top step. There, I wait for my moms [who both put the boys to bed every night] to scratch my head on their way past. Then, after the boys are crated, LOUD Mom sits on the top step and Little Mom crouches down, and both pet my tummy as I stretch out across the length of the stair. Repeat in reverse in the morning [minus one mom].
  3. I’m a very good observer. But you probably knew that already. If you visited my house, you would see me peering around corners, wide eyed, taking it all in. I don’t miss a thing! Some might call me a gossip or busybody, but let them. I’m performing a critical service, and I take my responsibility very seriously.
  4. My best friend, Baby Girl, is a Certified Life Coach. If at all possible, I highly recommend finding a best friend who is also a Life Coach. Not only does Baby Girl motivate me to be my best self, but she always knows what’s wrong with my life and how to fix it.
  5. I love to snuggle with my brother, Steve. Okay, yes, Steve drives me crazy sometimes, but I wouldn’t know what to do without him. [Isn’t that often true of siblings?!] Steve obsesses about his abs, thinks far too highly of himself, talks about himself in third “person,” and often has questionable judgment, but no one in this house cuddles with me the way he does.
  6. Sometimes I’m jealous of long-haired cats. It’s true. On television when they want to portray a cat that’s beautiful and rich, it always has silky, shiny long hair. I know there are downsides to long fur [like having to visit groomers and getting your rear end shaved – yikes!], but if I could just have it for a day….
  7. I’m learning a new language! After exploring so many blogs, I realized that only speaking English severely limits my reach. So, using LOUD Mom’s credit card [thank goodness she hasn’t noticed yet!], I signed up for online classes to learn Catonese – or is it Cantonese? I can’t remember. Hopefully, very soon I’ll be able to share my observations with cats in China – I hear there are well over a billion!

Before I make my nominations, I want to say that there are so many blogs I enjoy that I couldn’t possibly include them all. Below are my nominees [in alphabetical order]. No pressure to accept this award – just know I enjoy your blogs very much!

    • Thank you very much! And hearing you say that about long hair does make me feel better. I am thankful that I don’t have to visit the groomer. My moms regularly take The General and he HATES it!!!

  1. First of all – congratulations on the award…….versatile is a good thing especially when it comes to just plain GETTING ALONG in this life……second of all, THANK YOU for nominating little old ME for the award. I do have it already but that does not diminish the importance nor does it diminish the excitement of being nominated so color me grateful (not GRAPEful because purple does not look good on me with my red fur). My Mom and I love your blog – don’t ever change……OK?

    Hugs, Sammy

    • Thank you – and you’re welcome! I didn’t realize you had such a keen eye for color, Sammy! Even though my fur is short, I guess I am lucky that I’m black and white and can wear just about any color 😉

  2. Congratulations Carol! Well deserved award. And thank you for the nomination as well. I am touched that you visit my blog so often, especially since I am of a totally different species. Even though I don’t state it on my blog, I try not to participate in all the associated activities of blogging awards. This is one of the reasons I started that blog series page. That way I can share all my favorites with the world.
And…CATonese, wow! That might be tough. I took French but never had anyone to speak with so I have forgotten almost everything. Bravo for you 🙂

    • Why, thank you, Deb! And I understand not participating in the awards. I usually post mine on a special page, but was feeling a little frisky today! Your blog sharing series is wonderful [and I’m not just saying that because you featured my blog :-)]. I just wanted you to know how much I enjoy your blog! Even though we are of different species, we can still relate to one another on various levels. I’m a very open-minded cat.

Oh, and Walter wanted me to take French – he said it’s the language of all the great existentialists – but I wanted more bang for LOUD Mom’s buck!

  3. Congratulations, Carol! And thank you–although I don’t participate in blog awards, I appreciate the thought.
As a fellow low-maintenance grooming animal, I’m pretty confident that your moms think your short hair is perfect.

    • Thank you, Albert! I didn’t think you participated in these awards – I usually post mine on a dedicated page – but wanted you to know how much I enjoy your blog! I always look forward to reading your latest posts! And, you are probably right about my moms preferring my short hair. Come to think of it, we ALL have short hair. Maybe there’s something to that?

  4. Congratulations, Carol!! I truly look forward to reading your new posts – especially now that I know I should never eat or drink anything while reading them (no more spewing food or drink as I laugh hysterically!). You’ve got a way with words and have mad graphics skills. The fact that everyone around you is an adorable nut job doesn’t hurt either. (I say that with love.)

Thank you so much for the nomination. Coming from you, it honestly means a lot! Jacques and I are new to the whole award thing, so we’re not really sure how it works, but we do know that we are very proud and very honored to have you list us as one of your favorites.

    • Thank you and you’re quite welcome! Your blog makes me smile and I always get a kick out of your visits to mine!! Please tell Jacques hello! Oh, and The General wants Jacques to know that all of his troops are “Mine, mine, mine” – whatever that means 😉

  5. Congratulations Carol! Does this award add to Steve’s street cred?
I enjoy reading about your family, I’m always happy when I see you’ve posted something new! The thought of an AT-AT walk can still make me giggle!
Thank you so much for nominating me and listing me as a blog you enjoy, that is a true honor!

    • Thank you and you’re welcome – I think your blog is great! Violet’s still AT-AT it! And Steve can forget getting any “cred” for my award, even if he does have, as he calls them, his “fans.” Ugh, his ego.

  6. CONGRATULATIONS, CAROL! I can not think of a more deserving blog, and am very honored that you chose to nominate my little blog. Thank you.
Mr. M requested that I tell you that long fur is not as glamorous as you apparently think. And there are more indignities than shaved areas … he frequently has issues with fur-balls and he wishes he had short fur…. I guess others always want what they don’t have.
BTW, good on you for not sharing your award with the General.

    • Thank you and you’re welcome! I always look forward to seeing your posts – I’ve learned so much! Please tell Mr. M thank you for this information. I suppose you’re right – as they say, the food is always tastier in the other bowl.

  7. Congratulations, Carol! I enjoyed this post, and, may I add, I’m proud to say that *I* knew that you were a cat. =)
Your Moms are very lucky. oxox

  8. Congratulations on your well deserved Award, Carol. I wonder were that Steve Meeting is…MOL ;D Thank you for coming to my Pawty. It made my birthday just a little bit more special ❤ Extra Pawkisses for the weekend 😀 ❤

  9. You and Steve remind me of the Earth and Moon. I think we can be pretty sure that one of you broke off from the other and formed two separate feline bodies. They seem made out of the same stuff. You just have a bit more … signs of life … than your lazy brother.

Thanks for the nomination! Means a lot coming from a cat, my most important audience.

    • Steve would say I orbit him, but it’s really the other way around 🙂 It’s hard to believe we’re not biologically related, isn’t it? And you’re welcome! I love Luna and your blog!!

  10. Congratulations on the award, dear Carol! I’m not always able to read and catch up with my fellow bloggers as often as i would like, but I always enjoy what you have to say. So, keep it up, dear one! Regarding long hair……………you are beautiful just the way you are. Don’t even give that long hair a second thought! Not to mention, I hear that long hair has a way of getting things stuck in it like no short hair ever could. That means being messed with (not in a pleasant way) more often by your humans, so keep that in mind. Congratulations!

    • Thank you!! Everyone tells me long hair’s not all it’s cracked up to be, but sometimes I just can’t help myself. Baby Girls tells me that the media sets unrealistic beauty standards for felines. Maybe she’s right. Unless I get fur extensions – yikes! – I’m stuck with the fur I have, so I may as well make the best of it! And be thankful I don’t have to have my rear shaved!!!
